Mindfulness for Primary School Classroom Teachers
Session 1
Mindfulness in theory and practice
During Session 1 participants will learn theory and practices of Mindfulness, using the Mindfulness Triangle model, in order to focus on the application of the model to:
- SEL / the PDHPE Curriculum
- The Wellbeing Framework for Schools
- The NSW School Excellence Framework
Session 2
Engaging students in Mindfulness Practices
In Session 2 we teach a range of inclusive and positive Mindfulness activities and games to engage Primary students of all ages and stages, so that teachers develop a varied toolkit of activities to help students focus and calm themselves, increase understanding of their brains, self-regulate and calm themselves, and manage their emotions.
Session 3
Mindfulness, SEL & the PDHPE Curriculum
In Session 3 we teach and discuss Mindfulness practices for understanding and valuing oneself and others, in relation to the rationale and skills outcomes of the PDHPE Curriculum, so that teachers can help students increase their emotional intelligence through understanding the ways emotions impact their bodies and minds, and vice versa..
Session 4
Leading the Core Mindfulness Practices
In Session 4 participants experience and learn to teach three Core Classroom Mindfulness Practices based on Breath, Body and Movement, based on Side 1 of the Mindfulness Triangle Model, so that teachers can lead and schedule these practices appropriately in their Classrooms.
Session 5
Developing Positivity and Wellbeing through Mindfulness
In Session 5 participants will learn the benefits of Mindfulness practices for developing wellbeing, based on research on positivity and on the benefits of practices of kindness, generosity and appreciation, so that teachers can support the wellbeing of students within the school, in accordance with the PDHPE Curriculum, The Wellbeing Framework for Schools and the NSW School Excellence Framework.
